Earlier today, September 13, 2022 at about 06:00 AM, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) led by City Director, Charissa Guerta in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga with the leadership of Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo, CESO IV together with PENR Officer of Agusan del Norte Achilles Anthony C. Ebron and the Department of Agriculture (DA) in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways along with other Government Agencies (GAs) and four (4) Barangay Local Government of Units of Butuan City – Barangay Baan Riverside, Barangay Mahogany, Barangay Banza and Barangay Maug successfully conducted a Nationwide Simultaneous Tree Planting with a theme: “Buhayin ang Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan” at Levee Flood Control Project of the DPWH-CARBDP traversing the Barangays Mahogany, Banza and Maug, Butuan City. The activity was also in line with the World Bamboo Day and in honor to the President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos, Jr. on his birthday.
RED Tamayo highlighted in his inspirational message that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect mother nature. He expounded the keys to fight and mitigate climate change through planting trees, build resilient infrastructure, practicing proper waste segregation, use water wisely and responsibly and by preserving biodiversity.
The simultaneous tree planting activity gathered a total of 400 planters (222 – male and 178 – females) coming from different government agencies and representatives from afore-cited 4 BLGUs of Butuan City. With this hand in hand effort, a total of 1,000 indigenous seedlings were fruitfully planted in the planting site. DENR wishes that this activity will raise more awareness to the local community the importance of planting and saving trees as well as promote and encourage the conservation of our tree resources in order to diminish the effects of climate change.
