Philippine Eagle Week (PEW) is celebrated every year of June 4-10 by virtue of Proclamation No. 79, series of 1999 by then President Joseph Ejercito Estrada. This year’s celebration highlights the ecological importance and social significance of the Philippine Eagle.Philippine Eagle is nationally and internationally recognized as a critically endangered bird. The said wildlife should instill into the minds of the Filipino people the importance of the Philippine Eagle as a biological indicator of the forest ecosystems, a national symbol, and as a unique heritage.The theme for this year’s celebration is “KAPAYAPAAN AT KALAYAAN: ANG AGILA AT MAMAMAYAN, MAY KAUGNAYAN” which seeks to draw attention of peace and freedom between the conservation status of some of the most critically endangered species wildlife and the inter-connection between the community.
